What Should I check Before Calling an Air Conditioning Repair Company?

Air conditioners are very complex machines with many different components that keep it functioning properly.  When your AC suddenly goes out, problems can vary from minor complications to more major ones.  Before you contact Trident Air Conditioning, there are a few things you can check that may have caused your system to suddenly go off.

Checking the Breaker

If you have recently had a power outage there may be a chance the breaker is off or tripped.  For those who are not comfortable flipping the breaker, contact us immediately.  If you are comfortable, try checking that the breaker is flipped all the way off then flip it back on.  Then, check to see if your system has turned back on and listen for any abnormal sounds. If everything is running normal then this is most likely the cause of the problem.  However, if you notice strange noises, or the breaker trips or flips off again, contact us immediately and we will have our service tech out to your property immediately to inspect the problem.

Checking Your Thermostat

Sometimes accidents happen and maybe your thermostat got switched to heat instead of cool.  Check to ensure your thermostat is set to your desired settings.  Also, some thermostats have batteries.  If your thermostat appears to be off, remove it from the wall and replace the batteries. If you notice battery acid leaking inside the thermostat contact Trident Air.

Inspect Your Air Filters

Be sure to check your air filters and see if they need to be changed.  A dirty filter can make it difficult for your system to circulate cool air.  We recommend changing your filters every month or at least checking them each month.  A great way to remember when you last changed your filter is by writing the date on it.  This will also let our air conditioning service technician know if it needs to be changed.
